The Al-Amal Institute was founded by Mrs. Mounira El-Solh in 1959 as the first center of service to the M.H in Lebanon and the M.E. Currently, the institute caters for over 60 M.H adults residing at the center in Broummana, Lebanon.

The Al-Amal Institute has a focal vocational training program for manufacturing sweaters- “KANZAT AL-SHITAA” (The “Winter Sweater” program). Other vocational training programs include culinary, laundry, gardening and home-care training.

Educable individuals are placed in programs suitable for their levels in reading ,writing, math, etc. Musical and sporting activities are some of the recreational programs that bring joy and a sense of accomplishment to the kids-- some students have won medals in both local & international competitions including special Olympics.

AL-Amal's residents come from pour families all over Lebanon. Theese families support their children financially by covering only 8% of the actual cost. Each person residing at AL-Amal costs appr. 33 US# per day. Lebanese government covers only 30% of actual cost.
